MACOMB, IL -- The Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) at Western Illinois University is pleased to announce that Cathy Smith, a building service worker currently assigned to Beu Health Center, was selected as the April Civil Service Employee of the Month.

According to Smith's nominators, "as a healthcare facility, cleanliness is a must, and Cathy takes her job seriously and keeps the building up to high standards."

"Cathy single-handedly keeps all three levels of Beu Health Center not only clean to the average eye, but also works to keep all surfaces clean and sanitized. That in itself is a daily challenge," her nominators said. "She is pleasant, courteous and friendly to staff and patients. We are grateful to have her as a part of our team."

Another nominator added that "no job is too big or small, messy, unmanageable or inconceivable to Cathy. Not only does she get the job done, she gets it done right and with enthusiasm."

Smith began working as a building service worker at WIU in 1980.

"Cathy deserves recognition for the dedication she brings to her position," said Katharine D. Barrett, CSEC public relations officer. "We congratulate Cathy for her commitment to making Western a better place."

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for this recognition should contact Barrett at
