CAS Awards Reception April 30

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University's College of Arts and Sciences will host its 2007 Spring Awards Reception beginning at 4 p.m. Monday, April 30 in the University Union Lamoine Room.

Hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar will be available, and music will be provided by CAS faculty, known as "The Endnotes."

Faculty, student and Student Council awards will be presented beginning at 4:45 p.m.

Retiring faculty to be honored include English professor Jay Balderson, who came to Western in 1971, and Daniel Colvin, who began in 1972; political science professor Jutta Helm, 1972; and psychology professors Raymond Majeres, 1972, and Alphons Richert, 1972.

Faculty awards will be presented to Keith Boeckelman, associate professor, political science, for teaching; Yongxin Deng, assistant professor, geography, for research/scholarly activities; Aimee Shouse, associate professor, political science, for service; Bradley Dilger, assistant professor, English, for teaching with technology; Andrew Lian, professor and chair, foreign languages and literatures, for internationalization; Leslie Melim, professor, geology, for undergraduate research – career; Nancy Kwang Johnson, assistant professor, African American Studies, for undergraduate research – recent; and Heather McIlvaine-Newsad, associate professor, anthropology, for multicultural teaching.

Senior mathematics major Jeremiah Simmons (Hamilton, IL) will be recognized as the CAS Spring Cecile A. Christison Sterrett College Scholar. He will be presented the official medallion at the 2 p.m. Friday, May 11 Academic Honors Convocation in Western Hall.

Student Council Honorary Recognition Awards will be presented to history major Ashley Eberle (Spring Grove, IL), humanities; physics major Keith Pelletier (Rochelle, IL), math and natural sciences; and political science and music double major Farah Zolghadr (Springfield, IL), social sciences.

Psi Chi from psychology will receive the Student Council Departmental Organization Recognition Award.

The awards reception is open to the campus community.
