Western Illinois University Hosts Fourth Annual EGO Conference

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University's English Graduate Organization (EGO) will host the fourth annual EGO Conference Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10. In conjunction with the University's 2007-08 theme, "Global Challenges and Personal Responsibility – Environmental Sustainability," the EGO Conference theme is, "The Future of Sustainability: Social Equality, Economy, and Environment."

The conference will begin with the 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 keynote address by Scott Slovic, professor of literature and environment at the University of Nevada, Reno. Slovic's presentation, "Living Lightly and Inconsistently on the Campus: Sustainability and the Academic Life," will include information about his work on energy literature in relation to lifestyle and consciousness. His presentation, which is open free to the public, will be in Morgan Hall 109.

Saturday's (Nov. 10) activities will include individual paper presentations beginning at 9 a.m. in Simpkins Hall 27. Presenters will include students and faculty from Western Illinois University; the University of Wisconsin-Madison; the University of Florida; and the University of Yaoundé I, Cameroon.

The conference is co-sponsored by Western's English Graduate Organization, Western's University Theme Committee, the Visiting Lecturers Committee and the Council on Student Activities Funds.
