WIU Hosts ICTM Math Contest Feb. 21

MACOMB, IL - - Some 200 high school students from eight west-central Illinois high schools will compete in the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) Regional Math Contest Saturday, Feb. 21 at Western Illinois University. The day begins with 9:30 a.m. written exams in Morgan Hall and concludes with a 1:45 p.m. awards ceremony in Morgan Hall 109.

Participants at the Western Illinois site are in Divisions IA - - enrollment of 399 or less - - and 2A - - enrollment of 400-999 in grades 9-12. Students will have written and oral exams and compete as individuals, two-person and eight-person teams. Among the topics they will compete in are algebra I and II, geometry, pre-calculus and calculator. Students and/or teams achieving pre-established minimum standards will advance to the state finals May 2 in Champaign-Urbana (IL).
