July 6, 2009
MACOMB, IL -- Bev Lawyer, benefits counselor III in Western Illinois University's Office of Human Resources, has been named the WIU July Civil Service Employee of the Month.
According to her nominators, Lawyer demonstrates enthusiasm and outstanding performance by taking on tasks that are not listed in her job description. "She is always going above and beyond what is expected of her. By possessing a 'can-do' attitude, Bev goes the extra mile in giving to the organization," Laywer's nominator's said. "She embraces change and looks for ways to reinvent while continuing to provide a high level of value to the University.
"Bev is always making sure the departmental image is positive, accurate and articulate, whether it's in person at a presentation, in an informational mailing or posting an electronic message," her nominators added. "It is obvious that she is well-respected on campus simply by the request of fellow University employees to speak directly with her."
Lawyer began working at Western in October 1995 as a secretary II-extra help for Financial Aid, a position she held until July 1998. Two years later she was hired as a clerk II-extra help for Financial Aid and in September 2000, she was hired as a benefits counselor I in Human Resources. She was reclassified per audit to a benefits counselor II in November 2003 and in August 2008, she was reclassified per an audit to her current position.
"Bev's work is another example of the various duties that Civil Service employees excel at every day at Western. She is a true asset to our University," said Laura Caldwell, Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) public relations representative "We applaud her service and dedication to Western."
