MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University's School of Agriculture will hold its 2009 Illinois Performance Tested Ram Sale event beginning at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11 at the WIU Livestock Center in Macomb.

Organized by Mark Hoge, associate professor, and the WIU School of Agriculture, the event starts with an educational program at 5:30 p.m., with presentations from Dick Cobb from the University of Illinois; Jane Zeien, executive secretary of the Illinois Sheep and Wool Marketing Board, from Illinois Lamb and Wool Producers; and Hoge.

Following the educational program, a free lamb barbecue will be held, with the ram sale beginning at 7:30 p.m. The sale culminates the Illinois Performance Test, held each year at Western Illinois University.

"The purpose of the test is to identify animals and lines of breeding that are superior in performance," explained Hoge. "This year, 45 rams and at least 33 ewe lambs will be auctioned off."
