MACOMB, IL -- Students in Western Illinois University's School of Agriculture are inviting FFA members and Western agriculture-program alumni to participate in WIU's annual Ag Olympics. Sponsored by the Collegiate FFA (CFFA), the Ag Ed Club and the School of Ag's PAS (Post-Secondary Agriculture Student) organizations, this year's Ag Olympics event is slated for Tuesday, April 13 at the Livestock Center near the University Farm, which is north of the Macomb campus. (A map that shows the location of the Livestock Center is available at wiu.edu/ag/agopenhouse/LCMap.jpg.) The dinner portion of the event will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the games scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

"This is the first year that CFFA, Ag Ed Club and our PAS organizations are inviting FFA members and alumni to participate in our annual Ag Olympics," said Agriculture Education Professor Andrew Baker. "Each student organization would like to have an alumni team to represent its club. Former members of Hoof-n-Horn, CFFA, the Agronomy Club or any other club are invited to join us for this fun event," he said.

Baker noted that students, faculty and staff in WIU's School of Agriculture are also encouraging FFA chapters to participate, so they can experience events sponsored by the School of Agriculture.

"After the games, we will also have a pie-eating contest, and pies will be auctioned off to raise money for School of Agriculture scholarships. It is a fun night of games and fellowship, all for a great cause," Baker noted.

Teams for the School of Ag's annual Ag Olympics are comprised of five individuals. Cost for each high school team is $5, and each alumni team can participate free of charge.

Registration is due Tuesday, April 6 at WIU's School of Agriculture. For more information, contact WIU's School of Ag at (309) 298-1080 or visit the WIU School of Agriculture online at wiu.edu/ag. Download the 2010 Ag Olympics registration form at wiu.edu/ag/ag-olympics-cffa.pdf.
