MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University-Macomb employees who have passed away during the previous year will be remembered at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6 during a brief ceremony at the Memorial Tree Grove, located on the southeast section of campus by University and East villages, near the Pierce Street entrance. The ceremony is open to the public. Employees may be granted release time to attend during their regularly scheduled work hours, subject to supervisory approval and the operational needs of the department.

Brenda Fauls, music; Stan Hyman, athletics; Viktor Kemper, English and journalism; and David M. Smith, purchasing, will be remembered.

The May 6 ceremony marks the seventh annual planting in the Memorial Tree Grove, which was established Fall 2003 following a recommendation by members of Western's American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 417 with support from the Civil Service Employees Council, the Council of Administrative Personnel, Faculty Senate and University administration.

The annual ceremony includes one tree planted in memory of all employees who passed away during the preceding year. Honorees include employees who die while either actively working, on disability, on workers compensation or on an approved leave from the University.
