MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University's annual Western Walks-a-Thon is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 29 on the WIU-Macomb campus. An Employee Wellness initiative, the event takes place from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. on the Hanson Field track.

According to Judy Yeast, associate director of Campus Recreation and chair of the Employee Wellness committee, the goal for the event is to have team members (teams can be one or more individuals) walk at least one hour during the event.

Yeast added that prizes will be awarded each hour. The Western Walks-a-Thon is open free to WIU employees, including graduate assistants and student employees. This year's event is co-sponsored by HyVee of Macomb, which will provide a healthy snack for walkers.

In the case of rain, the event will be held on the upper-level track of the Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center. Individuals can register at the human resources office, Sherman Hall 105, or the Campus Recreation office, located inside the Spencer Student Recreation Center. Download the registration form at wiu.edu/Wellness/westernwalks.php.

Donations for Samaritan Well (women's shelter) will be accepted; make checks payable to Samaritan Well.
