MACOMB, IL -- Marsha Grotts, a building service worker at the Western Illinois University Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center, has been named the WIU May Civil Service Employee of the Month.

According to her nominator, "Marsha demonstrates the values, assertiveness and dedication to be the Employee of the Month. She always comes into the Recreation Center with a smile on her face and is friendly to all students, staff and visitors.

"Marsha has a work ethic that motivates her student employees. She works side-by-side with them and isn't afraid to do any job," her nominator added. "Marsha takes ownership of the building by really caring about the appearance of the Rec Center. Patrons often compliment the staff about the cleanliness of the building, and Marsha is the reason for these compliments."

Grotts was hired in January 2000 as a building service worker I- extra help employee, and was hired full-time in July 2000. While she resigned in July 2006, she returned two years later as an extra help employee. In December 2008, she was re-hired full-time to her current position.

"We would like to congratulate Marsha for her commitment to Western and to her job. She is an outstanding representative for the building services department and for the University," said Wendi Mattson, Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) public relations representative.

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for this recognition should contact Mattson at WK-Mattson@wiu.edu.
