MACOMB, IL –- The Spring/Summer issue of Focus magazine, an online publication about the people and events in the College of Arts and Sciences at Western Illinois University, is now available at wiu.edu/cas/about/focus/focus.php.

Highlights include features on WIU emeriti Larry Balsamo (history), Olive Fites (English), Henry Sather (biology) and Lynn Wolfmeyer (math); anniversaries in the psychology and African American Studies departments; the latest news about a Western alum who won a Pulitzer; a political science professor who has been awarded a prestigious Congressional Fellowship for 2011-2012; a globe-trotting alum who served as CAS "Professor of the Day"; and the story of "Opie," a life-sized model of a prehistoric marine reptile fashioned from scratch by Geology Museum Curator Robert Johnson.

There are plenty of faculty updates, and Dean Susan Martinelli-Fernandez has a Q & A feature with incoming University president Jack Thomas.

Award-winning journalist and deputy director of Western's B.A. journalism degree program, Professor Bill Knight, is the editor. Direct comments and ideas for future features to Knight at BK-Knight@wiu.edu.
