Update: Arrest Made in Assault [9/17/11]

MACOMB, IL -- Upon conducting an investigation into the battery report from earlier today (Sept. 17), the Office of Public Safety has arrested Conner J. Weston, 18, of 909 Tanner Hall, on charges of aggravated battery.

Weston was arrested at 11:30 a.m. in Tanner. He is lodged in the McDonough County Jail and has been trespassed from the WIU campus. According to OPS, while other individuals were present, it appears Weston was the only alleged assailant.

The victim is in stable condition at a Peoria hospital.

Timely Warning: Assault [9/17/11]

MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University Director of Public Safety Bob Fitzgerald has issued a notice regarding a battery near Tanner Hall.

According to OPS, at approximately 3 a.m. Sept. 17, a student outside of Tanner Hall was physically assaulted by two males, possibly unknown to him. The student was taken by helicopter to a Peoria hospital at 7 a.m. for evaluation of possible head injuries. An investigation is continuing.

The Office of Public Safety reminds students to report suspicious activity immediately and to remain alert to their surroundings. Individuals with information about this incident should call Public Safety at 298-1949, Macomb police at 833-4505, or Crime Stoppers at 836-3222.
