GA for Retention Position Established

MACOMB, IL -- To assist with student retention, a new graduate assistant position has been established at Western Illinois University.

The retention graduate assistant position, which is a collaborative effort of the Office of the Provost and Academic Vice President and the Office of the Vice President for Student Services, is designed to help increase retention efforts. Housed in the Office of Student Development and Orientation (SDO), the retention graduate assistant will work with faculty to obtain the names of students who are missing classes or having difficulty; provide academic and other assistance to students who may be having difficulties with coursework and other aspects of college life; work with academic advisers and University Housing and Dining Services staff; conduct exit interviews with students who are considering leaving the institution; assist with the College Student Inventory Survey; collaborate with the First Year Experience program; and assist with other related duties as assigned.

Faculty who teach courses that are comprised primarily of freshman students are encouraged to contact SDO when students are absent from class.
