Nicholson: November EOM

MACOMB, IL -- Vicki Nicholson, an administrative assistant I in the Office of the Provost and Academic Vice President at Western Illinois University, has been named the WIU November Civil Service Employee of the Month.

According to her nominators, Nicholson is "proactive, thinks ahead and presents valuable ideas and suggestions in order to improve the efficiency of the Office of the Provost and Academic Vice President."

"Vicki provides assistance in various other areas and projects even though she has no obligation to do so. Her willingness to help illustrates her commitment to the University. Most recently, she did an excellent job assisting with the Presidential Inauguration and the Founders' Day Program," her nominators added. "Her work ethic is impeccable, and she is sincere and works well with others. What is remarkable about Vicki is her willingness to go above and beyond what is required of her."

Nicholson started her career at Western in September 1975 as a secretary I in the Office of the Vice President for Business. In February 1976, she was hired by the Admissions Office as a secretary II and in June of that year, she was promoted to a secretary III. In August 1977, she transferred to the biology department. She resigned from her position at Western in August 1978, but returned in January 1984 as a secretary II for the Office of Public Safety. In July of that year, she was promoted to a secretary III and served in the home economics department. She joined the Office of the Provost as a secretary IV in January 1985 and in March 1985, she was reclassified per audit to staff secretary. After a reallocation per audit, Nicholson was named an administrative assistant I in July 1993.

"Vicki is to be commended for her leadership, initiative and productivity," said Wendi Mattson, Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) public relations representative. "It's employees like Vicki that makes Western the wonderful place it is."
