Student-Produced Western Illinois Magazine Fall/Winter Issue Now Available

MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University students have produced the Fall/Winter 2011 issue of Western Illinois Magazine, a bi-annual publication that showcases interesting people, places and things in the Western Illinois region.

The free publication, available in Western Courier racks on the WIU-Macomb campus and in various locations in Western Illinois, focuses on activities and places along the Mississippi River and includes articles on Quincy's historic houses, traveling the Great River Road near Alton and exploring Hannibal (MO).

Other features in the issue spotlight the past and future of the defunct town of Vishnu Springs, a unique bookseller in Nauvoo, the historic barns of McDonough County and the best brewpubs in the Quad Cities region.

The student-run magazine is produced once each semester. The editor in chief for the Fall/Winter 2011 issue is Vince Veltre, a senior journalism major from Pittsburgh (PA). Advisers include WIU journalism professor Bill Knight and Rich Moreno, director of student publications at Western.
