MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees will discuss phase two of the steam line renewal project, residence hall and University Union projects and an energy management strategy for Western, as well as elect officers, at the Friday, Dec. 16 Board meeting in the University Union Capitol Rooms on the WIU-Macomb campus.

The WIU Board will begin at 8 a.m. with a scheduled executive session in accordance with the provisions of the Open Meetings Act. The open meeting will resume at approximately 9 a.m., following the executive session.

The Board will consider purchases of $500,000 or more (phase two, steamline renewal project), and will also review issuing Auxiliary Facilities Revenues Bonds for improvements to, and renovations of, Thompson Hall and the University Union. The Board will also review the University's energy management strategy, which is designed to reduce energy consumption and promote energy efficiency. Effective Jan. 1, public universities in the state will be required to report the use of energy and water in facilities and have a target goal of reducing expenses for power, gas and water by at least 15 percent within two years.

The board will hear updates on the master plan, athletics and facilities assessment.

The next Board of Trustees meeting is March 30, 2012 at the WIU-Macomb campus.
