WIU School of Ag Selling Organic, Locally Produced Rocky Popcorn and Honey

MACOMB, IL – Give the gift of organic and locally grown and/or produced products this holiday season. Through the Western Illinois University School of Agriculture, Rocky Popcorn, golden sunflower honey, as well as rye and hard spring wheat berries (for those interested in grinding their own flour)—produced on Western Illinois University's Allison Organic Research and Demonstration Farm—are among the products available for purchase.

According to Joel Gruver, assistant professor and manager of Western's Allison Farm, Rocky Popcorn is available in one-half-pound plastic bags and microwaveable bags for $2 per bag at the School of Agriculture office in Knoblauch Hall 145 on the WIU-Macomb campus. The popcorn is also available for $2 per pound for any order five pounds or greater. The WIU School of Ag office is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday through Thursday, Dec. 22.

"This year, we're also selling the honey that was produced from bee hives on the Allison Farm, as well as in McDonough County. We currently have about 60 twin packs left for $18 per pack," Gruver said. "Funds raised from the honey sales will support the Horticulture Club at WIU."

Gruver added the rye and hard spring wheat berries are available in bulk for $1.50 per pound. He noted the honey, as well as the rye and hard spring wheat berries, are also available for pick up in the School of Ag office (Knoblauch Hall 145), but orders should be placed through Andy Clayton, Allison Farm research technician, before pick up.
