MACOMB, IL – A revised play written for a Western Illinois University course is one of 18 chosen for this year's Source Festival in Washington, D.C.

WIU alumnus Drew Hampton's 10-minute play "The Seesaw" was a final project for J. Conner's playwriting II class. Hampton is a 2009 graduate with a master's of fine arts degree.

Hampton's play was originally chosen for the 2009 inclusion in WIU's "Bring Your Own Play" event. That year it was also entered into the national competition for The Source Festival, making the list of 100 semi-finalists.

Hampton said the play has undergone a number of revisions and was resubmitted to the festival committee in October. Festival organizers received more than 650 submissions for the 10-minute play category, which were read by DC-area theatre-goers, actors, directors and national playwrights, including Adam Rapp, who wrote "Red Light Winter," and Moises Kaufman, who wrote "The Laramie Project" and "Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde."

Committee members narrowed their choices down to the top 18 plays, which included "The Seesaw." The finalists will compete for a cash prize and professional production of their play this summer.
