Think Purple, Think Summer, Think Western
February 16, 2012
MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – From general education courses to online courses to classes that count toward a major, Western's 2012 Summer Session has something to suit every student's schedule ... and degree.
According to Kathleen Neumann, associate provost and coordinator of summer school at Western, courses are taught by full-time faculty and the vast majority hold the highest degree in their field. Summer Session '12 courses available include offerings in general education, undergraduate and graduate courses and honors classes, delivered in residential, online or extension/distance learning formats.
New students who enroll for summer courses and select Western as their university of choice also have the advantage of locking in at the 2011-12 tuition and fee level. WIU's Cost Guarantee locks in the cost of tuition, fees, and room and board during students' four years of enrollment. What a student pays this summer is what he or she will pay for the next four years, with no increases, changes or surprises, Neumann pointed out.
"We have numerous courses available through Western in a variety of formats for Summer Session 2012," said WIU Provost Ken Hawkinson. "Summer is a perfect opportunity to take additional courses, either on campus or through our many distance learning options, to keep on track or to get ahead."
Neumann added that current WIU students can stay in Macomb to continue their degree program, or they can go home for the summer and take courses through Western's numerous online offerings, while Quad Cities students can choose to attend that campus or log on to take an online course.
"We will offer courses at all levels and many different formats to meet our students' needs," she said. "Students from other universities are encouraged to enroll at Western for the summer, and high school seniors looking to get a jump on their college degree should take a look at Western."
Registration for current WIU students begins April 2 for courses offered during the May pre-session; four-, six-, and eight-week sessions; weekend academies; and online options. Open registration for all other students begins April 23.
Additional summer opportunities at Western's Macomb campus include non-credit programs and conferences (youth summer camps — art, filmmaking, music, math, athletics and more); internships; and study abroad experiences.
