MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois area students who have made significant contributions to promoting sustainability in their organizations or communities are being asked to submit proposals for the Sustainability Student Awards at Western Illinois University. According to WIU Sustainability Coordinator Mandi Green, award winners will each receive a plaque, $250 to use to promote further projects, as well as recognition at a ceremony at the WIU Environmental Summit, which is scheduled to take place on the WIU-Macomb campus April 4.

Green noted the three award categories include: primary school level (PreK-6); junior/high school level (7-12 grades); and college level (undergraduate and graduate). Green said that eligibility is limited to individuals and groups of students from the Western Illinois area and college students attending Western Illinois University and other local community colleges. Information about the criteria for selection and other application requirements is available at www.wiu.edu/vpas/sustainability/summit_student_awards.php.

"I'd like to encourage students from every major to consider looking at the awards criteria," Green said. "The criteria are very general, and the application process is exceptionally easy to navigate."

The deadline to submit applications to be considered for one of the award categories is 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 23. (Proposals should be submitted electronically through the form on the website, www.wiu.edu/vpas/sustainability/summit_student_awards.php.)
