Sponsored Projects Director Interviews

MACOMB, IL -- Three candidates will interview for the position of director of the Office of Sponsored Projects at Western Illinois University, according to Roger Runquist, director of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Research and chair of the search committee. Beth Seaton, who served as director for 15 years, recently accepted a position at Northwestern University.

Candidates include John Smith, assistant director of Western's Beu Health Center; Shannon Sutton, interim director of the Office of Sponsored Projects; and Wayne Glass, director of grants at Schoolcraft College, Livonia, MI.

Smith will interview Wednesday, May 16. An open session for the campus community will be held from 11 a.m.-noon in Malpass Library Room 180.

Smith has served as assistant director of Beu Health Center since January 2009. He has also served as a psychology instructor at WIU since 2005. Previously, he served as a compliance specialist at Western (2006-2009); as grant director at the University of Illinois Chicago (2004-2005); psychology instructor at Black Hawk College in Moline (2002-2004); and adjunct psychology instructor at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg (2001-2005).

He received his master's and bachelor's degrees from WIU.

Sutton will interview Thursday, May 17. An open session for the campus community will be held from 11 a.m.-noon in Malpass Library Room 180.

Sutton has served as interim director of sponsored projects since late February. Previously, she served as grants and contracts administrator II in WIU's Business Services' Accounting Office (2003-2012); as grants and contracts administrator I (1999-2003); and as a staff auditor (certified public accountant) for Clifton Gunderson, LLC in Macomb (1996-1999); and as loan operations manager for MidAmerica National Bank in Macomb (1995-1999).

She received her MBA from the University of Denver and her bachelor's degree from Colorado State University.

Glass will interview Friday, May 18. An open session for the campus community will be held from 10:45-11:45 a.m. in Malpass Library Room 180.

Glass has served as director of grants at Schoolcraft College since April 2006. Previously, he was the interim president and managing director (2005-2006) and vice president for development (2002-2005) at Adirondack Economic Development Corporation in Saranac, NY. He has served as director of the Technical Assistance Center of the State University of New York, Plattsburgh State University (1998-2002); and as director of the Institute for International Business Education, Research and Training (1998-2002) and executive director of the North Country Small Business Development Center (2000-2002) at Plattsburgh State. He has also served in administrative positions at the University of Southern Maine, Washburn University (Topeka, KS), the University of West Florida; and Auburn (AL) University.

He received his MBA from Auburn University and his bachelor's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
