MACOMB, IL -- Kathleen Neumann, interim associate provost for budget, planning, and personnel at Western Illinois University, has been named as associate provost for budget, planning, personnel and technology, effective July 1, according to WIU Provost Ken Hawkinson.

Neumann has served as interim associate provost since July 1, 2011. She joined the WIU faculty in 1995 as an assistant professor in computer science and was named a full professor in August 2004. She was named chair of the computer science department in December 2000 (the department became the School of Computer Sciences in Fall 2010).

"Dr. Neumann has been an excellent leader within the Office of the Provost since accepting the interim associate provost position last year," Hawkinson said. "Her experience within technology will be especially helpful during the transition of University Technology to academic affairs, and her knowledge of the institution will allow our division to continue to move forward."

Prior to joining Western's faculty, Neumann was an associate faculty member in the department of mathematics at the University of California at Los Angeles (1992-95). She is co-chair of the Illinois Articulation Initiative-Computer Science Panel and is a member of the President's Retention Task Force and the University Technology Advisory Users Group. Neumann has authored numerous articles for professional publications and presented at several professional conferences.

Neumann received her bachelor's and master's degrees from WIU, and her Ph.D. from Northwestern University.

The associate provost for budget, planning, personnel and technology is the contract administrator for the University and has primary responsibility for the administration of the collective bargaining agreement, and serves as the University grievance officer and the University Research Council chair. The associate provost for budget, planning, personnel and technology is responsible for the academic affairs budget, academic planning, academic personnel, academic facilities and technology within academic affairs.
