MACOMB, IL – O'Fallon Township High School senior Wade Sweger has been chosen for a Centennial Honors Scholarship to Western Illinois University, which covers tuition, fees and a residence hall room for four years.

High school students with an ACT score of 28 or higher and grade point average of 3.5 or higher can qualify for the scholarship.

Sweger said he chose Western because of its engineering courses and the ROTC program.

"My older brother attended WIU so I was familiar with the campus, and I like that there are a lot of clubs and activities on campus," Sweger said. "While studies are my number one priority, college offers a lot of opportunities to grown and learn to live on my own."
Sweger said he and his family believe WIU provides a quality, affordable education to "prepare you for the next step in life."

"Many of the degrees offered are ranked high state-wide and nationally," he said. "There is also always something happening on campus, and the number of activities offered was larger than some other college campuses we visited."

In high school, Sweger was involved in the German Club and the intramural Frisbee and dodge ball teams and league baseball.

At WIU, Sweger plans to major in engineering/physics. He also wants to be involved in the University's ROTC program and intramural activities. After graduation, Sweger plans to serve in the U.S. Army.
