MACOMB, IL -- Ann Marie Hayes-Hawkinson, curator of education at the Figge Art Museum (formerly Davenport Museum of Art), has been named the director of the Western Illinois University Art Gallery, effective Aug. 15, according to Kathleen Neumann, associate provost for budget, planning, personnel and technology. She replaces John Graham, who retired in January after serving 20 years as curator of exhibits.

Hayes-Hawkinson has served as curator of education at the Figge since 2005. She has also served as an adjunct instructor in Western's museum studies program at the WIU-QC campus since 2008. Hayes-Hawkinson served as the curator of education at the Davenport Museum of Art from 1991-2005, and was a curatorial assistant at the Spencer Museum of Art in Lawrence, KS, in Spring 1991.

In her role at the Figge, Hayes-Hawkinson has been responsible for leading the museum's educational activities. The Figge School manages the education wing, which includes an activity center, the Artica Gallery, the Mary Waterman Gildehaus Community Gallery, four art studios and the John Deere Auditorium.

"Ann Marie's experience at the Figge Art Museum and her more than 20 years of experience in museum education and as curator of exhibits will take our Art Gallery to a new level," Neumann said. "We look forward to having her join the Division of Academic Affairs."

Hayes-Hawkinson is the museum liaison for Western's College of Fine Arts and Communication graduate museum studies program. She has presented at numerous conferences and is a member of the American Association of Museums (AAM), the EdCom Committee of the AAM and the National Art Education Association.

Hayes-Hawkinson received a master of arts degree (art history) and a bachelor of fine arts degree (painting) from the University of Kansas.
