63rd Annual Mathematics Teachers' Conference Set for March 21

MACOMB, IL – The 63rd annual Western Illinois Mathematics Teachers' Conference will be held at Western Illinois University Friday, March 21 in Morgan and Horrabin halls.
This year's theme is "The Power of Visualization in Mathematics" and will include the latest on PARCC implementation. Conference registration begins at 8 a.m. outside room 109 in Morgan Hall and the keynote address begins at 8:30 a.m. in Morgan Hall 109.
This year's keynote speaker is Bentley University Associate Professor Nathan Carter, of Waltham, MA. Carter's book, "Visual Group Theory," is an introduction to abstract algebra that presents a course in group theory through a visual perspective. The book won the Beckenbach Book Prize from the Mathematical Association of America.
Carter has also created a variety of open source mathematics software, and he is currently working on a textbook about the mathematics of computer graphics.
The conference's closing speaker is Kathy Felt, an adjunct faculty member on WIU's Quad Cities campus and an eighth grade teacher at Sherrard Junior/Senior High School. Felt has been actively involved in the CCSSM and PARCC and is currently a member of the Illinois Educator Cadre, working with PARCC.
Felt serves on a variety of committees, including several with the Illinois State Board of Education.
