Employment Fair for Veterans and Service Members March 25 at WIU

MACOMB, IL – A program designed to help veterans translate their service, education and experience into employment opportunities will be held at Western Illinois University on Wednesday, March 25.

The event is open to all veterans and service members in surrounding communities, at neighboring colleges and universities, and at Western. Veterans, employers, public and private organizations and community leaders will network to bring awareness to the value of hiring veterans.
"Connecting Vets to Careers" will be held from 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. in the University Union Grand Ballroom.

During the employment fair, employers will be seeking to fill vacancies and internships, and will offer assistance to veterans in preparing for employment. Professionals from various organizations and agencies will be available to provide direct services to veterans and service members. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Mobile Vet Center will be located just behind the Union.

There will also be breakout sessions including panel discussions and expert presenters. Empowering Female Veterans and Service Members, 2015 State Employment Briefing, and Careers in Law are session topics while panel discussions will focus on achieving success in transitioning to the civilian workforce.

The event is the first of its kind in which the Western Illinois University Veterans Resource Center, Office of Equal Opportunity, and Office of Human Resources are partnering together to enhance employment opportunities for veterans and service members throughout the area.

Veterans, service members, employers, community agencies and public organizations from Pekin, Bloomington, Naperville, Galesburg, Springfield, Decatur, Quad Cities, Peoria, Quincy, Monmouth, Mt. Sterling, Macomb, Dallas City and other areas will attend.
