WIU School of Nursing to Charter Chapter of International Nursing Honor Society

MACOMB, IL - The Western Illinois University Nursing Honor Society has been approved and will be chartered as an official chapter of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2.

WIU Assistant Professor of Nursing Sandra Nash, Chi Sigma Chapter vice president, will conduct the chartering ceremony at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1212 W. Calhoun St., in Macomb.

Approval for the Chi Sigma Chapter was granted at the STTI biennial convention, April 9.

Membership in STTI is by invitation and is extended to undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and professional nurses who have demonstrated superior scholastic, leadership and nursing achievements.

STTI is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to improve the health of people worldwide through leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research. Founded in 1922, members include practicing nurses, instructors, researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs and others.

The honor society's more than 480 chapters are located at institutions of higher education throughout the United States, as well as in Australia, Botswana, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Ghana, Hong Kong, Japan, Kenya, Malawi, Mexico, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Swaziland, Sweden, Taiwan, Tanzania and Wales.

One hundred nurse leaders and students will be inducted as charter members in this new WIU group.
Officers to be installed include Assistant Professor Julie Baylor, chapter president; Nash, chapter vice president; Instructor Lynn Bartlett, chapter secretary; Instructor Lindsay White, chapter treasurer; Instructor Julie Auger, chapter counselor; Assistant Professor Patricia Eathington, chapter governance chair and Instructor Carolyn Whitehouse, chapter LSC chair.

Following the chartering ceremony, a reception will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church.

Dignitaries who will be participating in the event include Cathy Catrambone, PhD, RN, FAAN, who will be the presiding chartering officer.
