Western Illinois University Inaugural Piano Festival Oct. 6-7

MACOMB, IL - -Western Illinois University’s School of Music will hold its inaugural Piano Festival, Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 6-7, featuring Northwestern University Associate Professor Alan Chow.
The WIU Piano Festival will begin at 1 p.m. with the “Competition of Pianists.” Pianists ages 14-18 will perform two memorized pieces for a chance to win a monetary prize. At 7:30 p.m., Chow will perform a solo recital, and at noon Sunday, Oct. 7, Chow will present a masterclass.
All events will be held at the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.
Chow has been a soloist for the Hong Kong Philharmonic, National Symphony, Utah Symphony, Oakland Symphony, Tulsa Philharmonic and Kansas City Symphony Orchestras. He has performed throughout the United States, Japan, China and Taiwan. Chow is the recipient of first prize at the Concert Artists Guild Competition, grand prize in the Palm Beach International Piano Competition and a silver medal and audience favorite prizes in the Gina Bachauer International Competition. He was an artist in residence of the University of Arkansas, and studied at Indiana University, Julliard School and the University of Maryland.
