October 9, 2012
MACOMB, IL – United Township High School senior Emily Thomas, of Hampton, has been selected for Western Illinois University’s Centennial Honors Scholarship, which covers four years of tuition, fees and a residence hall room at the school.
High school students with an ACT score of 32 or higher and a grade point average of 3.5 or higher are eligible for the scholarship.
At WIU, Thomas plans to major in chemistry and would like to join the school's dance team or cheer squad.
Thomas said she chose Western for the Centennial Honors program and because Western is “more personal and friendly.”
“Western offers an excellent assortment of classes for any level of learning, whether it is honors or not,” she said. “They also offer many extracurricular activities so there is something for everyone to get involved in.”
In high school, Thomas was a cheerleader for basketball and football and participated in dance pageants, the Letterman’s Club, National Honor Society, Interact Club, Jr. Rotarians, volleyball, the Panther Players, the speech team, French Club and the Link Crew.
After graduation from WIU, Thomas plans to continue her education to the doctorate level.
