Frazier Named CIO

MACOMB, IL - Stephen Frazier, former CIO of the California Maritime Academy, has been named Chief Information Officer (CIO)/executive director of University Technology at Western Illinois University, effective Nov. 12, according to Provost and Academic Vice President Ken Hawkinson.

Frazier served as the CIO of the California Maritime Academy from 2006 to February 2012. Previously, he was the information center manager/manager of the Center for Instructional Technology at Eastern Connecticut State University from 1994-2006. Frazier also served as manager of research and instructional computing at Bryant College in Smithfield, RI (1987-1994), as an academic computing consultant at Morehead (KY) State University (1985-1987) and as a data processing instructor/district computer specialist in the Trenton (MO) Junior College/Trenton R-9 Schools (now known as North Central Missouri College) (1982-1985). He has also served a variety of technology positions within the private sector and within the U.S. Air Force, and has taught college-level technology courses.

"We look forward to Mr. Frazier joining the division of academic affairs as our new CIO. His many years of experience will be a great asset as we address the University's future technology needs," said Hawkinson.

Frazier earned a master's degree in school computer studies at Northwest Missouri State University (1985) and a bachelor's degree in biology and psychology from Central Methodist College in Fayette, MO (1972).

Reporting to the provost, the Chief Information Officer's role is to plan, coordinate, direct and design all operational activities of University Technology (uTech). The CIO will collaborate directly with all areas in the University to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. Areas within University Technology include telecommunications, web support, desktop support, help desk support center, classroom services, the Center for the Application of Information Technologies (CAIT), uTech labs, networks, enterprise systems, servers, networks and security.
