Pennington Awarded Centennial Honors Scholarship
January 10, 2013
MACOMB, IL – High school senior Caitlin Pennington, of Kirksville (MO), has been selected for Western Illinois University's Centennial Honors Scholarship, which covers four years of tuition, fees and a residence hall room at the school.
High school students with an ACT score of 32 or higher and a grade point average of 3.5 or higher are eligible for the scholarship.
At WIU, Pennington plans to double major in music therapy and music education.
Pennington said she chose Western because it is "one of the few schools in my area with an accredited music therapy program."
"Upon visiting, I chose Western because of the atmosphere, as well as the quality of the music faculty," she said. "Western is a great value for a quality education. The faculty and staff are very supportive and want to see every student succeed.
There are also plenty of activities for students with a variety of interests."
At Western, Pennington said she hopes to be involved in theatre, music, dance and United Methodist ministries.
In high school, Pennington was involved in the concert, chamber, acapella and show choirs, National Honor Society, student council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, dance team, band, drumline, Girl Scouts, volleyball, the People in Motion dance company and the First United Methodist Church.
After graduation from Western, Pennington hopes to practice music therapy in a school or hospital setting.
