Wiemann Awarded Centennial Honors Scholarship
April 8, 2013
MACOMB, IL – Hamilton High School senior Jared Wiemann, of Hamilton, IL, has been selected for Western Illinois University's Centennial Honors Scholarship, which covers four years of tuition, fees and a residence hall room at the school.
High school students with an ACT score of 32 or higher and a grade point average of 3.5 or higher are eligible for the scholarship.
Wiemann said he will likely major in chemistry and chemical engineering at Western.
Wiemann said he chose Western because of its program that collaborates with the University of Illinois to offer both a chemistry degree and a chemical engineering degree.
"Western is highly involved with surrounding high schools and offers many opportunities to visit the campus," he said. "Students can also receive an education from a state school in a town that feels more like home."
In high school, Wiemann participated in music programs, talent shows, plays, the Science Olympiad, the Envirothon, the golf and WYSE teams, pep band, marching band and concert band.
After graduation from WIU, Wiemann plans to continue on to graduate school.
