MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- Two candidates for the dean of University Libraries at Western Illinois University will be on campus for interviews Wednesday-Thursday, April 24-25 and Thursday-Friday, May 2-3.
Dean candidates include Michael Lorenzen, associate dean for public services at Western Washington University (April 24-25) and Melvin Davis, director of library services at the University of North Alabama (May 2-3). Interview schedules and complete itineraries wiu.edu/employment.
An open meeting with each candidate will be held from 4-5 p.m. in the Leslie F. Malpass Library Garden Lounge (April 24 and May 2). An open meeting for WIU-QC faculty and staff with Lorenzen (via videoconferencing) will be held at 10 a.m. April 25. An open meeting for WIU-QC faculty and staff with Davis will be held at 2 p.m. May 3 on the WIU-QC campus.
Lorenzen has served as associate dean for public services at Western Washington University (WWU) since April 2011. Previously, he was the assistant dean for public services and an associate professor at WWU from April 2010 to March 2011. Lorenzen has also served as the head of reference services for the Charles V. Park Library at Central Michigan University (2003-2010); as a library instruction coordinator at Michigan State University (1996-2003); and as a reference librarian at Ohio University at Zanesville (1994-1996). He has served as an adjunct instructor for the School of Library and Information Science at Wayne State University since 2008.
Lorenzen earned an Ed.D. from Central Michigan University and an educational specialist degree from Michigan State University. He obtained a master's of education (higher education) from Ohio University and a master's of library science from Kent State University. He earned his bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University.
Davis has served as director of library services and a professor at the University of North Alabama (UNA) since July 2010. Previously, he was an assistant professor and user services librarian-electronic resources (2003-2006) and user services librarian-interlibrary loan (2002-2003) at Middle Tennessee State University; archival services librarian at Nashville Public Library (January-June 2002); and instructor and temporary reference librarian at the University of Alabama (September 2001-January 2002).
Davis earned his Ph.D. in history, a master's of library science and a master's of Latin American studies and his bachelor's degree in history from the University of Alabama.
