Beu Health Center Nurse Earns National Credential; Conner Certified Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner
June 17, 2013
MACOMB, IL — Deborah Conner, a nurse at Western Illinois University's Beu Health Center, has successfully met the requirements to maintain the National Certification Corporation (NCC) credential as a Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHC).
According to the NCC, individuals earn the credential by meeting educational and/or practice requirements and by taking a rigorous examination that covers the specified specialty areas. With this certification, Conner continues to be a part of the more than 100,000 health care professionals who have earned the prestigious credential since 1975, noted the NCC. Maintenance of the credential is required every three years and involves a continuing competency assessment and earning continuing education.
According to Beu Health Center Director Mary Margaret Harris, Conner has been continuously certified since December 1995.
"This certification is demonstration of a voluntary commitment to lifelong learning and keeping up with the latest advances in women's health," Harris explained. "Deb joined Beu Health Center in August 1998, and although she retired from full-time practice in May 2012, we are pleased she has continued to work part time in the clinic."
Harris added Beu Health Center's other healthcare providers are board certified in their respective specialties.
NCC is a not-for profit-organization that sponsors a national certification program in the obstetric, gynecologic and neonatal specialties and is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies.
