Cardea Named WIU Executive in Residence

October 23, 2013

MACOMB, IL – WIU alumna Nancy Cardea, the senior vice president and compliance officer for the Leo Burnett advertising agency, has been named the 2013 Executive in Residence for the Western Illinois University College of Business and Technology (CBT).

Cardea is a 1979 graduate of Western with a bachelor's degree in mass communication. She also holds a certificate in mediation and dispute resolution from Northwestern University and a certificate in process management and improvement from the University of Chicago.

After graduation from WIU, Cardea began working at J. Walter Thompson and then moved to King Graphics where she was later promoted to vice president/general manager. She has also worked at the Enteron Group, Seven Worldwide, Madden Communications, CNA Insurance and RR Donnelly, before coming to Leo Burnett.

At the Chicago advertising agency, Cardea works to ensure understanding of and compliance with all company and client requirements, including those of multinational consumer product companies. She directs and supports training, assessment and audit activities internally and externally and provides ongoing support to all functional areas to maintain process integrity.

Cardea is also a proponent of supplier diversity in the advertising community and of building relationships with higher education that benefit schools, graduates and industry partners.

The WIU CBT Executive in Residence program was started in 2005 by two former WIU professors, Jim and Carolyn Tripp. Executives visit the WIU campus to speak about their careers and share insight with students.

In addition to her career success, Cardea is the past president of the Chicago Print Production Club and has served on the Illinois State University Graphic Communications Board, the ACCGC Board of Directors and the AAAA's Print Production Committee. She is also a member of the National Advisory Council for WIU CBT and WIU's Engineering Technology Advisory Council.

For more information on participating in the program, contact Becky Paulsen, CBT director of development, at (309) 298-2442 or B-Paulsen@wiu.edu.
