Open Letter to Western Illinois Students

August 29, 2005

Open letter to Western Illinois University Students:

As we begin a new semester, we write this letter to ask for your assistance and cooperation in maintaining positive relationships with members of the Macomb community. Because you are also a local resident during your time at Western, please take seriously your responsibility to be a good neighbor and an involved citizen.

This year’s University theme, “Global Challenges and Personal Responsibility,” should begin at home. It’s everyone’s responsibility to be civil to others and to be a caring citizen within their community. Whether you live in a residence hall, an apartment complex or a home in Macomb, take the time to meet and get to know your neighbors.

We encourage each of you to participate in community activities and events, and to also serve as welcoming hosts for those who take part in University programs. Events such as the recent Community-University Partnership Program (CUPP) block party are wonderful opportunities to meet your neighbors, fellow students, Western faculty and staff and local community members.

Thank you,

Al Goldfarb, President; Bridget Early, Student Government Association President
