WIU Founders' Day Luncheon, State of the University Address Sept. 23

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Faculty, staff and community members are invited to celebrate "The History of Western Illinois University" at the 17th annual Founders' Day Celebration Thursday, Sept. 23 in the WIU-Macomb University Union Grand Ballroom.
The WIU-Quad Cities 60th Street campus' Founders' Day Celebration will begin at 3 p.m. in Room 102. A reception will follow.
At WIU-Macomb, doors will open at 11:30 a.m. for the buffet luncheon of Caesar salad, breadsticks, and fettuccini with marinara or Alfredo sauce and meat lasagna.
The program will begin at noon, and President Al Goldfarb's State of the University address will follow at approximately 12:30 p.m. Gallery seating will be available for those who are unable to attend the luncheon.
Included in the Founders' Day program will be the processional and introduction of the stage party; and the traditional ringing of the bell by Lana Myers, a retired University employee and granddaughter of Edwin DeCamp, who first rang the bell Sept. 23, 1902 to signal the start of classes at Western Illinois State Normal School.
Provost and Academic Vice President Jack Thomas will serve as host and emcee, and faculty, civil service and administrative personnel who have received distinguished awards and service awards throughout the past year (Fall 2009-Summer 2010) will be recognized, as will the 2010 recipients of the Town and Gown Award and the Honorary Alumni Award.
Established in 1994, Founders' Day is celebrated to honor the beginnings of the University that evolved from the Western Illinois Normal and Training School with 229 students on Sept. 23, 1902 to today's University, which offers a comprehensive curriculum to more than 12,500 students.

The registration form is available from the Sept. 8 TeleSTARS e-mail sent from the Office of the President and titled "Founders' Day 2010."
The State of the University address will be available online at wiu.edu/unews/lectures later in the afternoon Sept. 23.
