IIRA's Iutzi Appointed to Alternative Fuels Commission by Gov. Pat Quinn
March 28, 2011
MACOMB, IL -- Fred Iutzi, from the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at Western Illinois University, has been appointed to the Alternative Fuels Commission by Illinois Governor Pat Quinn. Iutzi, program manager of the Value-Added Sustainable Development Center, a unit of the IIRA, will serve as a representative of Illinois colleges and universities engaged in research and promotion of alternative fuels.
According to Iutzi, the Alternative Fuels Commission is an advisory body within the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. It was established to formulate strategies for promoting alternative fuels and to make policy recommendations for possible implementation by the Governor and the General Assembly, he noted.
"The Commission will primarily investigate state policy to identify mechanisms leading to more effective promotion of research and use of alternative fuels," Iutzi said. "It will also work to promote effective communication and coordination of alternative fuels research efforts among state and local governments, private industries and institutes of higher education."
Iutzi added that recommendations will also include encouraging use of vehicles capable of utilizing alternative fuels.
"The Alternative Fuels Commission may also review and recommend changes to any state regulation that may potentially inhibit the use, research and development of alternative fuels and vehicles capable of using those fuels," he explained.
