16 Days of Activism

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Interpersonal Violence Prevention Initiative (IVPI) staff and volunteers will take part in the International 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, Nov. 29-Dec. 1 and Tuesday, Dec. 6 in the University Union on the WIU-Macomb campus. This year's theme is "From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World."
IVPI will provide information about 16 Days of Activism, as well as local and national resources about domestic/dating violence, sexual assault and stalking. In addition, WIU Veterans Resource Center (VRC) and IVPI will sponsor the panel discussion, "Perspectives from the Military: Sexual Assault," from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6 in the Multicultural Center Multipurpose Room.
Founded in 1991, the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence is an international campaign originating from the first Women's Global Leadership Institute sponsored by the Center for Women's Global Leadership. Participants chose the dates Nov. 25, International Day of the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and Dec. 10, International Human Rights Day, to link violence against women and human rights. WIU's IVPI is funded by a $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) to help further reduce incidents of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking on campus.
