Behind the bricks and mortar, there are the people of Western Illinois University.

graduation - May 2016-3

Who I Am: Susan Stewart. Originally from the Chicago area, I earned my B.A. in Psychology and Speech Communication from Eastern Illinois University, M.A. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Roosevelt University, and Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. My husband of 11 years, Paul (WIU alumnus), and I have lived in Oregon, Washington, and now Illinois. We love to travel and explore new places, especially overseas.

What I Do: I am a professor in the Department of Management and Marketing, and teach courses in human resource management and management at the WIU-QC Riverfront Campus. I also teach a short-term study abroad course, which entails taking students to Ireland every May. I serve as faculty adviser to the student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), which recently earned a Superior Merit Award from SHRM. This student organization does so much for our students and campus community – I'm thrilled to know they were honored in this way.

Why I Love WIU: I came to WIU-QC in Fall 2008 and have been excited to watch our campus grow and thrive. It's a neat experience to be one of the founding faculty at the new Riverfront Campus. The main reason I love WIU is because of our students. They inspire me and it is an honor to know each of them. I do all that I can to serve as a mentor and positive role-model, and to assist them in obtaining internships and jobs. I'm proud of their successes and keep in touch with them after they graduate.
