Full-Ride Trustee Scholarships Awards Available
November 8, 2005
MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University has expanded its scholarship opportunities for outstanding students coming to Western in Fall 2006 with the addition of 10 full-ride Trustee Scholarships.
The newest scholarship program at Western will provide six incoming freshmen a value equal to room, board, tuition and fees. Up to two transfer scholarships will be available for new Fall 2006 Western Macomb students, providing the same level of benefits. Up to two transfer scholarships for Western Quad Cities students will be offered to provide tuition and all fees for two years to commuter students at the WIU-QC campus. Freshman recipients will maintain their scholarship awards for four years and transfer recipients will maintain their awards for two years, provided they maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average. After four years a total of 40 full-ride trustee scholarships will be permanently established.
In support of our goal to attract more achieving students, the University is pleased to announce these additional scholarship opportunities for incoming students, said Western President Al Goldfarb. Designating them as Trustee Scholarships draws attention to the support our Board of Trustees has provided for the initiatives contained in our Higher Values in Higher Education strategic plan.
Freshman students who have submitted a completed scholarship application by the Friday, Dec. 16 deadline will be considered for the award. Students who apply for the Trustee Scholarships and are not selected will automatically be considered for other WIU Foundation four-year scholarship programs.
The deadline for transfer student Trustee Scholarship applications is March 17, 2006. Transfer students who apply for the award and are not selected will automatically be considered for appropriate top-level WIU Foundation transfer scholarship programs.
Selection is based on academic achievement including ACT/SAT scores, high school class rank and grade point average. Transfer students must have completed 60 or more hours of college course credit by the end of their last semester prior to WIU matriculation and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or higher. Selection is on a competitive basis. The WIU Foundation Scholarship Committee will determine the recipients.
Inquiries should be sent to Director, University Scholarship Activities, Sherman Hall 308, Western Illinois University, 1 University Circle, Macomb, IL 61455.
