Yunker Receives Distinguished Service Award

MACOMB, IL – Penny Yunker, Western Illinois University accountancy professor emeritus who returned to the classroom this fall to teach part-time, was recently recognized by the Illinois Society of CPAs.

Yunker received a Distinguished Service Award by the Illinois Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Society, which is given in recognition of significant contributions and service on society committees and task forces.

“Dr. Yunker’s tireless dedication and contributions have helped elevate the society as the premier organization for CPAs and finance professionals,” according to the Illinois Society of CPAs release.

Yunker retired from Western in December 2004 following 28 years of service. She served as chair of the department of accountancy from August 1986 through August 2004. She earned her bachelorÂ’s and masterÂ’s degrees at Western in 1975 and 1976.

Yunker has been active in professional service with organizations such as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the American Accounting Association, the Midwest Accounting Society, the Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS) and the Illinois Board of Examiners (IBE), for which she currently serves as chair.
