MACOMB, IL -- Michael (Mike) Rodriguez, the vice president for information security at Compass Bank in Birmingham, AL, has been named chief technology security officer (CTSO) for the Western Illinois University-Macomb and Quad Cities campuses, effective Jan. 7, according to Executive Assistant to the President for Quad Cities, Planning and Technology Joe Rives.

"Mike's extensive knowledge of technology security, his current certifications and his background in user services, coupled with strong commitments to user support, made him an ideal candidate for the University's chief technology security officer," Rives said. "With his talent and leadership, we will continue advancing the security priorities and goals detailed in the Institutional Strategic Plan for Technology at Western Illinois University."

In addition to consulting, Rodriguez has held posts at RR Donnelley and IBM Global Services. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from North Central College in Naperville (IL) and his Master of Science degree from DeVry University in Chicago.

"I am looking forward to working with the Western Illinois University campuses in cultivating a security conscious culture in line with the University's values of social responsibility and personal
growth. Being part of a user-centered university technology team is very exciting. We have great opportunities to work with the campus community to advance technology security," Rodriguez said.

"I'd like to thank the CTSO search committee for bringing an outstanding set of candidates to campus and Michael Dickson for his outstanding leadership as interim CTSO," Rives said. "Mike's leadership has taken Western to the next level of security, and is an excellent starting point for Mike Rodriguez as he joins our technology team and campus communities."

According to Rives, Dickson will continue in his capacities as director of technology special projects.

"Mike has been influential in working with the campus in achieving our technology goals and
priorities, and that tradition will continue," Rives added.

In his role as director of technology special projects, Dickson will be engaged in the classroom upgrade program, computer rotation program in Academic Affairs, establishment of fiber between Macomb and the Quad Cities, as well as many other initiatives to increase user support and infrastructure at Western.
