'Cooking For Sustainability' Presentation March 25
March 20, 2008
MACOMB, IL - - Holly Stovall, an instructor in the Department of Women's Studies, will present "Cooking for Sustainability" from noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, March 25 in the University Union Board Room as part of the REAL Women: Women as Researchers, Educators, Activists and Leaders series.
Stovall will discuss ways to shop and eat--such as by selecting local food--that do not contribute to climate change. The topic ties in with this year's campus theme of Global Challenges and Personal Responsibility: Environmental Sustainability.
"Local foods are not fast or processed; they require preparation and/or cooking," Stovall said.
The REAL Women series, which is designed to support and recognize the achievements and contributions of female students, faculty and staff at Western, is sponsored by the Women's Center, the women's studies department and the Western Organization for Women (WOW).
Hilary Churchill, who works as a secretary in the office of the Vice President for Advancement and Public Services, is volunteering in the Women's Center this semester and is responsible for coordinating the REAL Women series as a feminist action project for a women's studies course.
For more information, or to request a REAL Women program proposal form, contact the Women's Center at 309/298-2242 or via e-mail at womenscenter@wiu.edu.
