MOLINE, IL -- The Western Illinois University-Quad Cities 60th Street campus facility was inspected yesterday (July 22) by WIU Physical Plant staff to assess storm damage. While two exterior light poles were damaged, the building escaped structural damage. The campus remains closed, but will re-open as soon as electricity is restored.
A Quad Cities area tree service has evaluated damage to the property's trees. The service will remove the fallen trees from walkways and the facility's parking lot and will return at a later date to remove fallen trees in the ravine.
Classes continue to be held at the Quad Cities Graduate Study Center, 639 38th St., Rock Island (IL), today (July 23) through Sunday, July 27 at their regularly scheduled times. Saturday and Sunday classes will be held July 26-27 at the center. Updates will continue to be announced through local media and will also be posted at wiu.edu and wiu.edu/qc.
Advising sessions, faculty meetings, student organization meetings and other regularly scheduled appointments that were to be held at the 60th Street campus have been cancelled.
If students consider travel to the Graduate Study Center unsafe, they should arrange with faculty to complete academic course requirements missed during the temporary WIU-QC relocation. Individual faculty members are responsible for their academic course requirements, and it is the individual faculty member's decision whether or not to grant a request to make up work that has been missed.
The WIU-QC campus is on official shut down until electricity is restored. According to University policy, when the University is shut down, employees are dismissed from and paid for their regular working shift. Employees working in essential positions may be required to work their regular hours during a total shutdown.
The WIU policy on limiting University operations because of emergency conditions is available in the Administrative Procedures Handbook, which can be viewed at wiu.edu/policies/emergency.php.
