MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University Art Gallery is featuring two distinct opening exhibitions for the 2008 fall semester that will remain on display through Thursday, Sept. 25.

"Brett Eberhardt: Bulgarian Influences" features drawings and paintings based on direct observation of still life and interiors in Sofia, Bulgaria, by the Western Illinois assistant art professor. Eberhardt, who earned his MFA degree from Syracuse University, received a Summer Stipend Award from the WIU Foundation and from Western's Office of Sponsored Projects in support of his travel and preparation for this exhibition.

The second display, "Art that Heals," is by noted regional artist Kelley Quinn and supports Western's 2008-2009 University theme: "Health and Wellness: Challenges and Responsibilities." Quinn has on display examples of visual art that have been used for healing by various cultures around the world. These examples, on loan from public and private collections, include African, Indonesian, Mexican and Native American masks; Hopi Indian dolls; Tibetan healing mandalas; Russian icons; and more.

A free public reception for the season-opening exhibits will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2 at the Art Gallery.

Additionally, Quinn will give two Gallery presentations which are open to the public: "Labyrinths: Tools for Health and Healing" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9; and "Mandalas: Tools for Health and Healing" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16.

Western's Art Gallery, located north of Sherman Hall, is open free to the public from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays and from 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays during exhibitions. For more information, contact the Art Gallery at (309) 298-1587 or visit wiu.edu/ArtGallery.
