MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University senior Andria Bernard (Winfield, IL), a communication major with minors in Spanish, marketing and broadcasting, snagged a golden opportunity to intern with the widely known Double R Productions company in Washington D.C. this summer.

"Traveling to Washington to live there was exciting in itself considering I had never been there before," Bernard said.

"I got an exclusive, behind-the-scenes experience with Double R Productions and opportunities to meet a variety of companies in the business," added Bernard, a 2005 graduate of West Chicago Community High School.

The internship gave Bernard hands-on experience, requiring her to apply her studies in communications to real world situations. It has also brought her closer to her ideal job in media productions and post-production work, she said.

Double R Productions specializes in film and television and is involved with other kinds of media forms including: announcements, public service, original programming, non-broadcasting production for corporate and non-profit organizations and government agencies, video news releases and commercial media.

The internship was only one of many notable educational opportunities and experiences for personal growth that Bernard has had as a Western Illinois student. During her free time at Western, Bernard participates with the WIU women's soccer club and is a member of several organizations including: the National Broadcasting Society, which has given her a strong foundation in the field of communications; the Mortar Board Senior Honors Society, which recognizes students work in the community; and Lambda Pi Eta, a national honor society for undergraduate students in communication.
