Western's Symphonic Wind Ensemble Recital Nov. 7

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University's Symphonic Wind Ensemble will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall, located in Simpkins Hall.

The Symphonic Wind Ensemble, led by Director of Bands Mike Fansler, is a highly select group of 50-55 wind and percussion players. The Ensemble has recorded five CDs over the years, and has been chosen to perform at numerous local, state, region and national venues, including the College Band Directors National Association, Music Educators National Conference and at Orchestra Hall in Chicago.

The Nov. 7 program will include "Festival Variations" (1982) by Claude T. Smith; "The Alcotts" (1915) by Charles Ives; "Serenade No. 12 in C Minor K388" (1782) by W. A. Mozart, with guest graduate student conductor Justin Davis; "The Binding" (1981) by Fisher Tull, with guest faculty conductor John Mindeman; "Second Suite in F for Military Band, Op. 28, No. 2" (1911) by Gustav Holst; and "The Vanished Army(They Never Die)" (1918) by Kenneth J. Alford.

The recital is open free to the public.
