Weather Advisory for Macomb, QCs
December 3, 2008
MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- Due to inclement winter weather conditions today (Dec. 3) and forecasted conditions for Thursday, Dec. 4, a University Advisory has been issued for Western Illinois University's Macomb and Quad Cities campuses for this evening and through 8 a.m. Dec. 4. At this time, both campuses remain open and classes are in session. University employees and students should assume that the campus where they work and attend is operating as usual unless an announcement is made.
The weather advisory allows employees the option to use accrued vacation time, compensatory time or approved leave without pay after notifying their supervisor.
According to University policy, if a University Advisory is issued due to the weather and students consider travel to campus unsafe, they should arrange with faculty to complete academic course requirements missed during the time of the advisory. Individual faculty members are responsible for their academic course requirements, and it is the individual faculty member's decision whether or not to grant a request to make up work that has been missed as a result of a University Advisory.
If weather conditions are extreme, the decision to close the University and/or cancel classes will be made by the president by 6 a.m. to better assist employees and students who must commute farther distances. If the University is closed, an alert will be sent using the WIU Emergency Alert System. Notification will also be sent to area media outlets (see list below) and all weather-related announcements will be immediately posted on the University's home page (www.wiu.edu) and on the WIU local area network bulletin boards. The Office of Public Safety (309/298-1949) and the campus switchboard (309/298-1414) are also immediately informed of the campus' operational status.
The WIU policy on limiting University operations because of emergency conditions is available in the Administrative Procedures Handbook, which can be viewed on the web at www.wiu.edu/VPAS/handbook/policies/emergency.shtml.
