8 p.m. Curtain for "Jesus Christ Superstar" February 9

MACOMB, IL - - "What's the Buzz" at Western Illinois University? It's "Jesus Christ Superstar," which will come to the Western Hall stage for an 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9 performance.

Please note this is a last-minute time change due to circumstances beyond Western's Bureau of Cultural Affairs control.

The groundbreaking theatrical performance dramatizes the story of the final seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, including Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, the unrest caused by his preaching and popularity, his betrayal by Judas, the trial before Pontius Pilate and his crucifixion.

"Jesus Christ Superstar" is written by the legendary team of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, and was their first musical to be produced on the professional stage when it opened Oct. 12, 1971 on Broadway. The show stars Ted Neeley as Jesus of Nazareth. Neeley starred in the title role in the motion picture "Jesus Christ Superstar," and headlined the first touring company in 1972. The rock musical has earned five Tony Award nominations in 1972, and another Tony Award nomination for 'Best Revival of a Musical' in 2000.
